Cuckoo Spiced Gin flip flops between warm and warmer, bold and peppery with a thick thread of juniper running throughout. It works well in a G&T, but we love it with ginger ale and a squeeze of lime.
The Cuckoo Gin team sow the seeds and harvest the wheat and barley that goes into their base spirit. They mix this with a bought in base, then add their botanicals – including cloves, ginger, lemongrass and cinnamon – and distil.
Cuckoo Gin is made by Brindle Distillery up in Lancashire. It is a family affair, with Cath and Gerard Singleton cajoling their grown children into helping out. The family were inspired to make gin after visiting Cotswolds Distillery.
Brindle Distillery is still a working farm, although the cow shed now rather resembles a mad scientists lair. The team have a sizable collection of gins to their name and a philanthropic ethos.
