Jean-Louis Dutraive joined the family business in 1977, taking on a legacy that stretches back through generations of winemakers and grape growers. Today the domaine is known for its exceptional artisanal Beaujolais crafted from the family’s 11.5 hectares of top vineyards in Fleurie and Brouilly. Jean-Louis farms all of his land organically and uses minimal intervention techniques in the winery with just a touch of oak to highlight the natural beauty of the grapes and terroir. This vibrant Beaujolais is from the Chiroubles appellation which is known for its granite valleys shaped like amphitheatres and some of the highest vineyards in the region. This unique and rugged terroir helps to produce perfectly ripe grapes with plenty of freshness and aromatics. Once in the winery, Jean-Louis uses semi-carbonic maceration and ferments the juice using indigenous yeasts. The young wine is then aged in a combination of stainless steel tanks and neutral barrels for 6 months before bottling. Bursting with zingy red cherry and bright plum and cranberry notes, this is a lively and youthful red that’s ideal to serve alongside charcuterie or even slightly chilled as an aperitif.
